Todd Fortier holds a Master of Music degree from Duquesne University. There he studied under Claudia Pinza, daughter of famed Metropolitan Opera Bass Ezio Pinza. During his studies with Ms. Pinza he participated in her summer opera training program EPCASO which is a 7 week intensive training program located outside Venice, Italy where he worked with some of the top performers and conductors in opera including Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Chiara, and Vivica Genaux.
While in Pittsburgh he performed in numerous productions locally with Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. After finishing Graduate School, he moved to NYC and lived there for 8 years. In that time, he performed and coached with many top teachers in the operatic field. In the 6 years that Mr. Fortier has been in the Milwaukee area, his students have performed and been cast in lead roles with many regional companies including Milwaukee Rep, The Fireside, Waukesha Civic Theater, Lake Country Players, Skylight Music Theater, First Stage, and Sunset Playhouse Rising Artists.
Many of his students have attained the prestigious Exemplary Soloist Award at WSMA State Competition, and his students have also been chosen to be in both High School and Middle School State Honors Choirs. Mr. Fortier serves as adjunct faculty teaching private voice at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee where many of his students are featured soloists. Mr. Fortier is a full member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) were his students have been finalist and award winners in the Wisconsin Chapter NATS auditions in both classical and musical theater divisions.
Many of his students have been accepted into outstanding music departments such as Loyola New Orleans, Roosevelt, Illinois Wesleyan, Luther, UW Stevens Point Musical Theater Program, Viterbo University, Northwestern University, and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities for both Classical and Musical Theater with some receiving top voice scholarships at these schools. He has been a student and mentored by Dr Constance Haas for over 6 years now. During the 2013-2014 school year, Mr. Fortier had 8 students receive Exemplary Soloist Awards for both Classical and Musical Theater Solos, 4 students received Best Lead Actor/Actress in Musical Awards from the Tommy Award committee, and 5 students were accepted into State Honors choir were a few will be featured soloists for those concerts. Mr. Fortier focuses on teaching each student as a whole and as an individual.
His technical style is based in the Italian Bel Canto style which focuses on the natural freedom of the singing voice. Todd has his Level 1 Certification of Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method. This method lends itself to all Contemporary Commercial Music or CCM. Todd will receive students interested in pop, jazz, rock, musical theater as well as classical.
Mr. Fortier is a classical trained singer who teaches various styles and approaches each student as an individual guiding them to finding their own voice using various wholistic approaches.
