Samantha Carr is an oboist originally from Grosse Pointe, MI.
She is currently an active freelancer in the Milwaukee area. She holds a Bachelor in Music from Bowling Green State University (where she graduated Cum Laude) and just completed her master’s in oboe performance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Samantha will be starting her master’s in chamber music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee fall of 2021. Her primary teachers include Nermis Mieses, Katherine Young Steele, and Geoffrey Johnson.
She has attended summer programs such as Music Academy International Trentino Music Festival in Trento, Italy (2017) and Eastern Music Festival (2018 and 2019) where she studied with Randall Ellis. Additionally, she has played for and/ or participated in masterclasses with Alex Klein, Alex Kinmonth, Monica Fosnaugh, Erin Hannigan, Nancy Ambrose King, Richard Killmer, James Austin Smith, Eric Ohlsson, and Andrew Parker. Samantha is one of the founding members of Bowling Green State University’s Double Reed Club, where she served terms as secretary and president.
While a student at Bowling Green State University, she also taught private lessons at Bowling Green Middle School and High School, held a faculty position at the Studio Connection (local music studio in Bowling Green, OH), and maintained a private studio. Other teaching experience includes teaching reed making and coaching chamber groups at BGSU’s Double Reed Camp.
In addition to teaching, Samantha is an avid oboe/english horn reed seller. All of her reeds are custom made to order and are handmade exclusively by Samantha.
