"Lare" holds a B.A. Classical Guitar, M.M. Composition, and a Doctorate Composition/Music Theory from UW-Madison. "Post doc" studies include the physiology of the hands, and cutting edge learning strategies.He is author of three books, The Conservatory Tutor for Guitar, Vol's 1 &2, and Introduction to Harmony For Guitar with TAB, pub. by Mel Bay. He was an Instructor of Guitar at Carroll University for over 20 years and a two time winner of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Composition Contest. He has had premiers at the Spoleto Festival (Italy) and at the Cathedral de Notre Dame (Paris). Has taught Music Theory (all levels), Music History and Composition at the University level. Dr. McDonald will often design a curriculum based upon the students needs, which includes creating a written diagnostic of your skills, including musicianship, technique, even stylistic practices. The latest research in learning strategies is employed, and great care is taken to acquire the technique needed to avoid those dreaded "plateaus". The student enjoys a say in their curriculum, too; they are encouraged to "bring to the studio" any music they wish to learn.
